About Us
Welcome to the Dispersed Radiology East Midlands Academy. The DREaM Academy is a collaboration between the radiology training schemes of University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and Nottingham University Hospitals, with the Royal Derby Hospital and district general hospitals in the East Midlands. Supported and funded by Health Education England (HEE), and Health Education in the East Midlands, the original purpose of the Academy was to meet the growing demand for Radiology training in the UK by increasing training capacity through regional delivery and administration of teaching, whilst maximising training efficiencies in state-of-the-art facilities.

Whilst a multi-professional facility from the start, the Academy’s remit has widened to include support for radiographer and sonographer training in the East Midlands, as well as vascular surgery and obstetric training through the use of high fidelity simulation. The collaboration works both ways with radiographer and sonographer trainers, physicians, surgeons, and physicists playing a crucial and valued role in the training of radiologists and vice versa.

Through the DREaM Academy, all radiology trainees in the East Midlands complete a five to six year training programme following the Royal College of Radiologists specialty curricula in Clinical Radiology and/or Interventional Radiology, culminating in Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists, and eligibility for application to the GMC Specialist Register.
